Is giving young Jews a taste of the homeland the best way to save Judaism?

The amazing success of these trips is that they demonstrate how easily constructable an identity actually is - and that's exciting! Birthright is a pretty obvious example of an instrument that assists in helping Jews perceive the security needs of their identity. As well as the state for that identity.

I believe gays should learn from this example. We should found our own state and approach rich gay businessmen, such as Mark Bonham and that guy from BP, who will fund such trips (also called Birthright, because that it is) to ameliorate the relationship between Diaspora gays and those who are already residents of the gay nation.

We should also have a Law of Return. As the Jewish Birthright does, we should instill on program participants that we are great, hated, few, and scattered. And that if we don't stick together we'll be lost.

I read the Birthright article with alarm. Indoctrinating young people while critizizing Canada's "tossed salad" approach is one thing, however, ignoring the crimes of the Israeli state against the Palestinians - especially the people of Gaza - is an abomination that should be condemned.
