What Nayap is quoted as saying in the article is true - there is enough to eat - but there is also a lack of schooling, particularly past elementary school, there is a severe lack of opportunities and jobs and medical attention is very difficult to obtain - far away for many and too expensive to travel the distance.

I have been working with indigenous youth in the Peruvian Amazon since 2006. To learn more about everyday indigenous life in the remote Peruvian Amazon and to see amazing photos all taken by the indigenous children, please visit ninosdelaamazonia.org

I believe education is one of the crucial elements so that the inhabitants of the Amazon can participate in the decisions about the preservation and development of their communities according to their wants and needs.

You can also help a child from the Peruvian Amazon with their education if you so desire.
