Hey Arno,
I dont think you will really remember me, but I was present during that day in Dandora. I had come with the UNEP (I am working for the audio-visual department at the UNEP as an intern). I was a little over-enthusiastic, a video-camera and a stills camera with me, struggling to do both. :) Anyway, I just wanted to say that your blog is really well-written. I especially like the end 'Thank god we don’t live here.' You are right. Upon reflection, I am sorry to say this (maybe I was too ashamed to accept it?), but that is what I feel too.
I recently met a Kenyan photographer who has a 'Mungiki' friend. He said that it would be very safe for us to go IN THE ACTUAL DUMPSITE for photography, if that friend was along. I am still in a dilemma if I should go in there or not.
They say that we were all fortunate that day because the wind was blowing in the other direction; otherwise the 'noxious' and nauseating smells are almost unbearable. I cant help it, but it has piqued my curiosity. Maybe I will just go there afterall.

You hit it bang on my brother. This is the real truth, and sooner or later it will find us in our nice, clean, air-conditioned homes and offices. The clock is truly ticking. Thank you for writing this.
