George St. Pierre is the greatest athlete Canada has ever had. Greater than Wayne Gretzky, greater than Steve Nash and greater than Donovan Bailey. What he did at the Bell Centre was nothing short of spectacular.

He not only completely dominated his opponent in front of his home crowd of 21,000(the record for a UFC gate), he did it in entertaining and spectacular fashion with the belt on the line..

The move you describe where St. Pierre threw a superman punch, FROM A LEFT HANDED JAB POSITION, into a leg kick(WHICH DID LAND CONTRARY TO YOUR REPORTING)was one of the most technical and athletic moves to be ever displayed in any sport, let alone a fight for the title. It was not only visually arousing, it also showcased the continuing creativity and evolution of the sport, with infinite combinations of moves being created and performed by 185 lb men who move with the grace and agility of cats.

You talk of the slang word "ground and pound" as if it were some outlandish, barbaric action from the past of Cro-magnon, yet would you use these same terms to describe a legal body check from an NHL game?

I dare you to participate in a local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or a Muay Thai Kickboxing class and tell me afterwards how athletic those participants are. Then imagine throwing those two sports together with wrestling and boxing and your opinion of the gracefullness and brutality of MMA might change.

This argument shouldn't even be going on anymore because it isn't an argument. Its already been proven that football causes more physical harm to participants than MMA. These studies were American where Football is god but it wouldn't be surprising if the same consensus was reached when related to Hockey.
