That was a wonderful story. I wish I had the wherewithal to undertaken an investigation like that of my own, but it actually had never occured to me that there might still be small scale harvesting of murex dye. Fascinating.

At any rate, if you’re still interested in a chemical analysis of that sample, I could help you out. Spectroscopy would confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt whether the compound was a dibromoindigo, and after that, finding out whether it was in a 6,6 configuration would be a simple matter.

hello there! Wow what an exciting investigation. If you know how I can buy the same, let me know!!!

I am trying to mimick proverbs 31 of the Bible. Of course, its either buying the dye or trying to get it myself from a bunch of shells. As a city woman, I would prefer the less adventerous route!
